Virus Snowsport x TeXtreme®

Virus Snowsports pushes board design forward with TeXtreme® Carbon Fiber, delivering lighter weight, higher stiffness, and precise response. The result is confident control in all conditions and durability riders can rely on season after season.

Craftsmanship Meets Innovation

Virus Snowsport is redefining the performance standard in snowboarding through uncompromising engineering, premium materials, and cutting edge technology. Based in Germany, the company has manufactured elite level boards for decades, always prioritizing innovation and rider performance over cost driven production. The collaboration with TeXtreme® has elevated board construction by unlocking new levels of speed, control, and durability, proven at the highest levels of competition.

More than 15 years ago, Virus began evaluating TeXtreme® Spread Tow technology as part of its mission to identify the world’s lightest and most advanced composite materials. Earlier snowboard constructions already relied on high performance fibers, but TeXtreme® introduced a new era of design possibilities and material efficiency that reshaped the company’s approach to performance engineering.

Engineering for Victory

Virus incorporates TeXtreme® materials throughout its snowboard lineup, with particular emphasis on Hybrid configurations. The resulting constructions deliver a unique combination of stiffness, impact resistance, and power transmission while keeping overall weight to a minimum. Riders benefit from a high performance experience that exceeds what is possible with traditional titanal based builds, offering superior control and stability under the extreme forces generated during high speed turns.

A clear example of this material advantage came when Virus Snowsport returned to the World Cup circuit. In 2022, a rider on a TeXtreme®-reinforced Virus snowboard claimed Olympic gold, followed by an overall Snowboard Alpine World Cup win in the 2024 season. The momentum continued at the World Championships, where riders on Virus boards earned both gold and bronze medals, with all four athletes finishing inside the top ten. Together, these results highlight the significant competitive edge delivered by TeXtreme®.

Sustainability Meets High Tech

Sustainability has become a central component of Virus Snowsport’s development philosophy. The factory has operated on solar energy for more than a decade and captures excess heat from production equipment to reduce environmental impact. Recent projects have introduced natural fiber prototypes and bio-based resins, reflecting an ongoing commitment to align technological innovation with climate conscious manufacturing. The integration of TeXtreme® Bio-Based Flax materials plays a key role in this transition by combining ecological benefits with structural performance.

Insights from the Top

Feedback from world class athletes has proven essential in the refinement of Virus designs. Benjamin Karl, one of the most accomplished alpine snowboarders in the world, continues to contribute valuable insight drawn from his experience at the top level of competition. His input influences ongoing improvements in ride dynamics, responsiveness, and board feel.

The TeXtreme® material gives us more performance reserves than any traditional fiber blend we’ve tried. It reduces board shattering under pressure and enhances overall control, especially for lighter riders and women. The weight savings also help preserve rider energy, an advantage that’s critical in elite competition.”

Looking Ahead

TeXtreme® remains a core component of Virus Snowsport’s future innovation strategy. Current research and development efforts focus on enhanced bonding technologies and the integration of next generation composite fibers. The objective is to deliver snowboards that are even stronger, lighter, and more responsive to meet the performance demands of tomorrow’s riders.

" If you want maximum performance, there’s nothing else on the market like TeXtreme®,” says Virus. “It’s not just a material. It’s a game changer.
